Natalie's 300

Story

'With You' is a charity close to our hearts. The charity provides a vital lifeline of free, confidential support for people experiencing issues with drugs, alcohol or mental health. We know first hand the difficulties faced by addiction and how it can wreck family life. It is a huge problem and desperately underfunded, especially in Cornwall, because it takes £423 to give someone all the support they need to change their life. That is why we are raising awareness and hard cash to make sure others can get help. In November Jonno and Martin are traversing 300 miles of the Cornish coastline, starting at Rame Head and finishing at Morwenstow on the 23rd, on what would have been Natalie's 54th birthday. We want to raise a minimum to help 10 people have a life-changing opportunity, a minimum of £ 4,230. We are self-funding the trip so every penny raised, and every discount offered by our suppliers will go directly to help others. We know you can help us make that happen. Thank you so much for your generosity and your donation. Jonno and Martin xx

We’ve hit our target! Thank you! ❤️

4th December 2021
A heartfelt thank you from Jonno and I for everyone helping make this happen. From suppliers and accommodation providers offering discounts (and in some cases waiving their fees completely), and for all you, our friends, family and people we have met on our journey and some we don’t know and just wanted to donate to this cause. THANK YOU Jonno and Martin xx

DAY 12: Circular Walk Widemouth Bay to Bude via coast and return via canal and footpaths (7 Miles).

23rd November 2021
We ended our epic adventure with a circular walk in a place we as a family spent many happy times. It would have been Natalie’s 54th Birthday today, and to celebrate we were joined by Pam, John and his dogs Oggy and Sonnet. After yesterday’s strenuous walk with 4000ft of elevation, Jonno and I were in agreement of a less arduous day to mark the end of our journey. And what a journey it has been. We have met so many people in this amazing county who have supported and encouraged us. It has been a real privilege. We would like to thank everyone involved in helping us make this happen. Truly life changing. Thank you. Jonno and Martin xx https://strava.app.link/oQPYRZpjqlb

DAY 11: Linear walk, Widemouth Bay to Boscastle (15 Miles)

22nd November 2021
This walk was always going to mean something special to us as it took in some of Natalie’s favourite places. A hard day’s walking but tempered with perfect clear skies and bright winter sun. Picture of Jonno on Penally Point overlooking the harbour at Boscastle. A place of significance for Natalie and her family. https://strava.app.link/vQ9HTYSXolb

DAY 10: Port Isaac to Trebarwith (12 miles) and Boscastle to Trebarwith Strand (15 miles)

21st November 2021
We split our walks today. Jonno, Ellie and Izzy took a separate circular walk from Port Isaac heading North to Trebarwith Strand, and Pam and I headed South from Boscastle to Trebarwith. Taking in some of the best North Cornwall coastal scenery and all places Natalie knew and loved. A special day. Tomorrow we head from Boscastle North to Widemouth Bay to our lodgings at Chycot.

DAY 9: Circular Walk South from Perranporth (8 miles)

20th November 2021
We decided on an easier second Saturday and walked an area neither of us knew, Perranporth. We were reminded of the industrial heritage and the dangers of long abandoned mine shafts and towering unstable cliffs. We coupled our circular walk with a walk up the Blue Hills Tin Valley before heading back near the runway with the Perran ‘Drag & Drift’ loudly resounding in the background - much to Jonno’s interest. https://strava.app.link/jEQoVFqxllb

DAY 8: Circular walks North and South from Zennor (10.5 miles)

19th November 2021
Referred to as Category 4 on iWalk Cornwall, some parts were particularly challenging as the photo suggests. Here Jonno climbs up the bolder strewn South West Coast Path. But we loved this part of the County, it’s rugged beauty and stark reminders of it’s tough industrial heritage. A really good place to come and reflect. Oh, and on the journey to Zennor we had a roadblock with a herd of cows being taken to another field. Something Jonno doesn’t see in Plymouth! https://strava.app.link/K3CSO10Tjlb

DAY 7: Circular walks: Porthcurno to Sennen via Lands End (13 Miles)

18th November 2021
Despite some Cornish ‘mizzle’, we had another uplifting day with great views along the coast, and despite the commercialism of Land’s End we walked, stopped and took it all in. Met some lovely people in particular Dee, Emerald and Mo at the Apple Tree Cafe at Trevescan, who made us feel so welcome at their cafe. Special thanks to Dee for donating our cost of our lunch to our cause. And good luck with the new venture, it’s a really special and welcoming cafe. We’re staying at St Just RFC tonight, and in addition to them allowing us to stay for free (and a free pint too) we’ve also received a further donation. Just amazing! https://strava.app.link/czaPVka5hlb

DAY 6: Circular walk from Helston around the Penrose Estate via Loe Bar (8 Miles)

17th November 2021
So pleased to be joined today by Pam, Ellie and Izzy for this circuit through woods, parkland gardens and coastal inlets. And with perfect weather we didn’t want to leave our lunchtime stop at Loe Bar - the photo doesn’t do this justice, it’s an extraordinary place. We’re at half way stage today. Staying tonight at YHA Penzance, before walking Lands End tomorrow. https://strava.app.link/RWGcjLYoglb

DAY 5: Circular Walks at St Keverne and Coverack (13 Miles)

16th November 2021
We really enjoyed this stretch of coastline and hinterland. Widely diverse, from the recently abandoned Dean quarry and it’s loading Jetty (operating until 2005) to Black Head and the history and importance of Pilchard fishing. It’s a fantastic section of the coast and highly recommended. https://strava.app.link/FischC7Uelb

DAY 4 Circular Walks: Porth to St Anthony’s Head and Porth to Portscatho (10 miles)

15th November 2021
Less challenging ascent and descent today, but with varied walks along the coast, river inlets, wooded valleys and byways. Met some people interested in our walk, and stopped at the Towan Beach Cafe for refreshments. Oh, and Jonno decides to climb a mast! Stopping at the Three Tuns at St Keverne tonight before two circular walks from here tomorrow. Now for a beer….. https://strava.app.link/qCDDBxN9clb

DAY 3 Circular walks Portloe to West Portholland and Portloe to Nare Head (9 miles)

15th November 2021
Delighted to be joined by Ellie and Izzy for the second part of our walk today to Nare Head. Staying tonight at the safe harbour of the Ship Inn at Portloe - thanks to our hosts Rob and Gemma for upgrading our room to a family suite. Lovely relaxed welcome. Thank you. Amazing donations coming in too. Thank you for helping us make this happen. https://strava.app.link/ywfvDpAoblb

DAY 2 Lansallos to Polperro and Pencarrow Head (11 miles)

13th November 2021
Delighted that Jonno’s best mate Felix could join us today on a walk that surpassed our expectations. A fair weather day, light cloud and light airs. Just a few walkers, apart from that - just amazing views along the Cornish South Coast. https://strava.app.link/NDl35GsS9kb

DAY 1 Linear walk Rame Head to Looe (16 miles)

13th November 2021
We’ll, we’ve started. And despite challenging elements - strong winds with heavy showers, we got to Looe in quieter weather in the dark - as you can see! Tomorrow we head for a circular walk at Polperro and Polruan. https://strava.app.link/7AYrksGb8kb

Walk update!

4th November 2021
We’re starting to understand the challenges of doing this walk in winter, with passenger ferries not running, short days and limited accommodation! Not to be defeated we’ve changed how we are overcoming this - using our off-grid camper van to help us get around the county - we are doing some circular walks along the coastline. We’ll post progress of each day - starting Friday 12th November.
